QNO1: What did Daiches’ attitude towards the week-end as a school boy? Why did he long for it?
Ans: As a school boy, Daiches enjoyed weekend a lot. He says’ that Friday was rose-colored. It was the best day of the week because two more days were off after Friday. Saturday has its own pleasure. Sunday reminds us of Monday and school again. So, he always longed for weekend to get rid of burden of school.

QNO2: What was his general view of school life?
Ans: Daiches generally enjoyed his classroom work but when burden of homework, class work, competition among students and no sense of relation bored him. Then he began to consider school as a prison for boys who have to be in the school for 7 to 8 hours with no relaxation. He thought that students were like prisoners.

QNO3: He liked holidays for their freedom-freedom for what?
Ans: Daiches liked holidays for freedom from school. He says that school is like a jail for boys who are kept there like prisoners, so he waited for weekend and summer holidays of two months. In school there used to be a lot of home work, school work, tension, tough routine and no time to play and enjoy.

QNO4: How did he spend his summer holidays?
Ans: Daiches had a wish to have and enjoy summer holidays. He used to play cricket with his siblings and friends under the July sun shine. Although the weather was hot, but due to no tension of school, he would feel free all the time and played whenever and whatever he liked.

QNO5: Wishes do not come true in this life, writes Daiches. What are the things he longed for but could not have?
Ans: Daiches had a wish to have a tricycle. His parents could not afford it. Then he wishes turned to a bicycle. Again he was disappointed. Another wish was to have and eat ice-cream which also never came true. The last but not least wish was summer holidays. This wish came true and he enjoyed a lot.

QNO6: What did he do with his pocket money?
Ans: He saved his pocket money in socks or box. He did not spend his money. The saved money would be spent on special occasions like Christmas, Easter or other festivals.

Due to modern research in medical field, no disease is incurable. Science is making progress rapidly and more and more wonders are likely to occur in medical and other fields of life.

Now, science has given us critical mind and solutions to chase problems. So we are less fearful than our ancestors.

Ans: Astrology played important role in lives of the people in the past. They believed blindly in what astrologers told them. There was no critical approach. They were superstitious. So astrologers took advantage of the simplicity and ignorance of the unaware peoples.

QNO8:
Describe some of the superstitions still current in our country. How do they effect the lives of those who believed in them?
